Originally created in 1966 as one of the nation’s designated Regional Educational Laboratories, WestEd conducts research and development programs and projects and large scale survey and evaluation studies, provides professional development and technical assistance, and works with policymakers and practitioners at state and local levels to carry out major education improvement efforts. Its Health and Human Development Program (HHDP) focuses on high school reform, Career Technical Education, and contextual factors that support learning, including work-based strategies. WestEd’s STEM program has expertise in both science and math standards and assessment; it was a recent recipient of an National Science Foundation climate change grant with Pacific Resources for Education and Learning and is conducting numerous projects in STEM education and professional development. For more information on WestEd, please see http://www.wested.org

The College & Career Academy Support Network (CCASN) at University of California Berkeley is dedicated to the goal of improving high schools, particular
ly through career academies and other small learning communities. Since 1998 CCASN has offered professional development, materials, and coaching for schools and districts in California and other states that are trying to start or improve career academies and other small learning communities. Given staff expertise in the environmental sciences, past leadership experience in environmental academies, and extensive knowledge of curricula and teaching practices used in green academies, CASN works closely with the California Department of Educaiton in providing technical assistance to green academies in California.  For more information on CCASN at UC Berkeley, please see http://casn.berkeley.edu
